Diffusing Essential Oils 101

Breathe plant-infused air. That just about sums about diffusing essential oils in as few words as possible.

But why? Why do we do it? What sort of benefits does it have? How can it help me live a better, longer more enlightened life??

Now slow down there just for a second. We’ll go through all of this and more one at a time, keeping everything as simple and to-the-point as we possibly can. Just to make it a little easier for you. Now don’t say we don’t love you.

Essential oils are plant extracts in their purest form, and there’s a lot you can do with them. They have long been used as all natural treatments for common ailments, such as fatigue, stress, congestion, insomnia, nausea, etc. There is a LOT you can do with them, so we’ll leave it at that, for now.

And so, if you are not sure where to start we have devised this quick reference guide on exactly why and how you can diffuse these natural oils for use in your home and daily life.

Again, we understand you’re busy. We’ll try to keep this as brief and informative as possible.

The Big WHY - Why Diffuse Essential Oils?

There are basically 2 main reasons to diffuse essential oils in your home or on the go. Every other reason can fall under these 2 basic points:

  1. A Natural Air Freshener

    Avoid using chemical air sprays loaded with toxins that invade our bloodstream. Instead, freshen up your space with all natural essential oils and enjoy breathing the fresh aromas of the outdoors, inside.

  1. Therapeutic Stress Relief

    Plants contain phytochemicals which are also found in their essential oil extracts that provide a soothing effect on the mind and body. Not only do the oils enrich our skin through direct contact, but breathing them allows them to enter our bodies for some good old fashioned natural stress relief.

Note that too much of a good thing is never a good a idea. Essential oils are highly concentrated plant extracts and can even be toxic or trigger allergies in high amounts so please diffuse responsibly for their full therapeutic effect!

So that covers the why, let’s get into the how. We offer you 3 different ways to diffuse your essential oils as easy as 1-2-3.

The Big HOW - How Can I Diffuse Essential Oils?

  1. Ultrasonic Diffuser

    This first style of diffuser requires the user to dilute the essential oil in a water tank inside the diffuser unit. First you fill the tank up with water, then you add some oils to the mix. Stir it around a bit with your finger to disperse the oil evenly on the water surface, close up the tank and power the unit on!

    The diffuser will emit a cool mist using an atomizer chip that vibrates the water at such a high frequency, that it turns into a mist. The mist carries the essential oils and diffuses them into the air for you and everyone around to breathe.

  1. Nebulizing Diffuser

    This second diffuser style does not require water. You simply add a couple (typically about 8-12) drops of essential oil directly into the glass chamber and twist the power knob to turn the fan on.

    This diffuser will emit a much fainter, less visible mist that is much more potent in smell. It delivers a concentrated vapour of pure essential oil without any water in the mix.

    A nebulizing diffuser blasts the essential oils inside the chamber with a hyper-concentrated stream of air that transforms the liquid oil into a mist and is dispersed into the air.

  1. Diffuser Bracelet

    Lastly we have the bracelet. These bracelets are made with lava stone rock, which are porous (covered in many tiny holes) and so are able to hold aromas within their tiny crevices for long periods of time. Just drop a few droplets of essential oil directly onto the beads and the scent should hold for 12 hours or more.

    If the beads are too oily at first, don’t worry it will go away. Your skin will absorb the excess oil and all their therapeutic benefits directly into your body within a few minutes. You will then be left with a bracelet medicated with an essential oil aroma for you to bring up to your nose and breathe any time during the day.

All right we’re making progress, almost done here. Finally, we will have a look at the main benefits of diffusing and why you may want to consider bringing it into your daily routine.

What Are The Benefits of Diffusing Essential Oils?

  1. Freshen Up, Not Cover Up

    As mentioned earlier, essential oils naturally freshen up your air with the purest aroma possible. Conventional aerosol sprays fill the air with chemicals that cover up foul odours with synthetic ingredients whereas essential oils attach themselves to the air we breathe for true freshness. Also you don’t have to feel guilty for breathing it all day since it’s natural. Kind of like taking a walk through a forest.

  1. Passive Background Wellness

    Keep your diffuser diffusing for hours on end before having to refill it. Once it’s running, all you have to do is breathe. It works in the background as you go about your day as you normally would, keeping you relaxed and your home fresh, sort of like an all day spa for the mind. Natural wellness and stress relief therapy is literally as easy as breathing.

  1. Choose How You Want to Feel

    This is our favourite part. Every essential oil is different and has its own therapeutic qualities. There are oils for sleep, energy, stress relief, healing and more.   1. Anchor to Your Breath

    In Zen, the breath is your main anchor to the present moment. It is the one thing in your life that you will have with you until the moment you die. On a brighter note, when you fill the air with a soothing aroma our lungs naturally take in more oxygen on every breath, causing our breathing to become deeper and calmer.
